Getting Started

How do I install the chatbot on my website?

After creating a bot in your dashboard, copy the install code from Step 1 on the bot page. It's one line of HTML — paste it before the </body> tag on every page of your website. Most builders have a built-in spot for it. We have step-by-step guides with screenshots for WordPress, GoDaddy, Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, Webflow, Google Tag Manager, and raw HTML at /help/install.

How long does setup take?

Most businesses are live in under 5 minutes. Creating a bot takes 60 seconds. Installing the embed code takes another 2–3 minutes depending on your website platform.

Do I need a developer to set this up?

No. The embed code is one line that you paste into your website's custom code section. No coding knowledge required. If you use WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, or most other website builders, there's a built-in place to add custom scripts.

Can I test the chatbot before going live?

Yes. After installing the embed code, visit your website and start a chat. Enter your own name and phone number — you'll see the lead appear in your dashboard within seconds and receive an SMS notification.

Leads & Notifications

How do I get notified when a new lead comes in?

Go to Settings and enter your mobile phone number. You'll receive an SMS within seconds of any new lead. You can also enable email notifications for a backup alert.

Where do leads go after they're captured?

All leads are stored in your dashboard under the Leads section. Each lead includes the customer's name, phone, email, issue description, urgency level, and the full conversation transcript.

What happens if someone submits a lead at 3 AM?

You'll receive an SMS immediately. The lead is stored in your dashboard so you can call back first thing in the morning. If you have Auto Lead Follow-Up enabled, the system will automatically text the lead to let them know you'll be in touch.

Can I send leads to my CRM automatically?

Yes. Go to Settings → Webhook Integration and enter your Zapier, Make, or custom webhook URL. Every new lead will be posted to that URL as a JSON payload, which you can route to HubSpot, Google Sheets, GoHighLevel, or any other tool.

Missed Call Text-Back

How does missed call text-back work?

When you enable it, you get a dedicated local phone number. Put that number on your Google Business Profile and website. When someone calls and you don't answer, they automatically receive a text from that same number within 30 seconds.

Do I have to change my actual phone number?

No. The dedicated number forwards calls to your real phone. You keep your personal number — you just advertise the dedicated number externally.

What area code will my dedicated number have?

We provision a local number in your area automatically. The area code matches your region based on your Twilio account settings.

Can customers text back after they receive the auto-text?

Yes. If a customer replies to the auto-text, their message is forwarded to your mobile number so you can have a real conversation.

Billing & Plans

Is there a free trial?

Yes — every plan starts with a 14-day free trial. We collect a card on file at signup so the trial converts smoothly if you decide to keep it, but you can cancel anytime from your dashboard before day 15 and you won't be charged a cent. We'll email you 3 days before the trial ends so there are no surprises.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel from your dashboard at any time with no cancellation fees. Your account stays active until the end of your billing period.

What's your refund policy?

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you're not satisfied within the first 30 days, contact us at support@afterhourslead.com and we'll refund you fully.

What happens if I go over my conversation limit?

We'll notify you when you're approaching your limit. Your chatbot will continue working — we won't cut you off mid-month. We'll reach out to discuss upgrading your plan.

Do you offer discounts for agencies?

Yes. The Agency plan includes unlimited chatbots and conversations for managing multiple client accounts. Contact us at support@afterhourslead.com to discuss custom pricing for large agencies.

Chatbot Behavior

Can I customize what the chatbot says?

Yes. In your bot settings you can set a custom welcome message, tone (professional, friendly, urgent, casual), business hours, services, pricing, and a booking link. The AI uses all of this to answer questions accurately.

What happens if the AI doesn't know the answer to something?

The bot is instructed to collect the customer's contact info and let them know someone will follow up. It won't make up information — it only answers based on what you've configured.

Can the chatbot book appointments?

Yes. Add your booking link (Calendly, Housecall Pro, etc.) in your bot settings. The AI will share that link when a customer asks to schedule.

What languages does the chatbot support?

The AI can respond in the language the customer writes in. If a customer writes in Spanish, the bot will respond in Spanish.
